Top 5 Wednesday – Books that would make good video games

This week’s topic is a bit more difficult for me as I don’t play a lot of video games. The only video game that I play regularly – like once a year but then for a few days – is Sims.

I’ll be telling you how I think the books could be transformed into video games and which character I’d like to be able to control. Like I said above, I almost never play video games, so I’m not sure if my ideas are possible.

Chameleon Moon

Parole was a fascinating, burning city that is being destroyed throughout the story. I would love to be able to explore it and discover more of the different places that I read in the book. The illustration of the book cover already gives it a video game feel. The aim of the game could be to find the different locations of Parole. The character you control is able to interact with other character, and by doing so finds out more information about certain locations. I’d like to play Rose.

Fire Boy

I’d find a video game that is more action-based totally suitable for Fire Boy. You’d be controlling Wahid in this game and the aim would be to get from one side of Karachi to the other, while trying to avoid other characters that are trying to kill you, while cooperating with those who aren’t. However, since you have good and bad djinns, and good and bad people, you have to decide if you can trust them based on conversations that you have with those characters.

The Star-Touched Queen

This could be adapted to a life simulation game. One of the reasons, I’d love to have a video game of this book is that I just want to design different types of sarees for the characters. One would be able to control a character either in Akaran, the Night Market or in Bharata. I would love to be able to play Gauri or Amar.

City of Strife

So this would be similar to Chameleon Moon in that the aim is to discover the city. However, the added difficulty is that you have to get to the locations without your enemies seeing you! If they see you, you lose points. You find out by playing the game, which characters and groups will cause you to lose points. The character you play will comment on the different people and locations they see – thus you learn more about the city while playing. I would love to play Larryn because I think he would make hilarious comments about the elves. It would also be fascinating to play Arathiel as he hasn’t seen the city in a long time and I would be interested to know what has changed in the years.

Six of Crows

This game would be a game with different levels. You have to accomplish the mission of the first level to get to the next. The missions would be chosen in chronological order from the book and will simulate the story. You have to play as one of the six main characters. The mission is a failure if you chose to do the wrong actions. If your main character does not take part in one of the missions in the book, you either skip the mission or watch as the other characters finish it. I would play either Nina or Inej as I think they have interesting talents and stories, which I’d like to reenact. The aim of the game is to complete the overall mission (which I’m not stating because of spoilers).
